Education Series for entrepreneurs in the works

The Millworks Centre for Entrepreneurship will be hosting monthly workshops and seminars under its newly-launched Education Series. Starting this week, the series will feature talented guest speakers with professional backgrounds in small business support, economic development and other specialized fields. 
Located in the Machine Shop, the Millworks Centre for Entrepreneurship is operated by the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corporation. Some of the Education Series workshops are scheduled to be held at the 83 Huron Street facility, but other venues will be used to accommodate larger crowds. Participation is open to the public through registration at a minimal or no-charge cost, depending on the type of workshop.

Exporting to the U.S.
Tuesday, March 21
8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Quattro Hotel and Conference Centre
Cost: $25 (includes breakfast and lunch)
- This one-day session will feature speakers from seven different agencies, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, Export Development Canada, BDO Canada, FedNor, and the Ontario Ministry of International Trade. Attendees will learn about government export programs and services, how to better manage risk, avoiding U.S. customs issues, American tax implications, new information on U.S. customs requirements, and insights on the future of the North American Free Trade Agreement.
Leadership 101 with Michael DiAngelo

- Growing current leaders and developing emerging leaders within any organization has become a critical objective for long-term growth and success. With the current workforce getting older and retirements being a fact of life for all businesses, succession planning has also become a critical exercise. Join specialist Michael DiAngelo in a seminar and discussion on effective leadership and the components of solid succession planning.
Generational Learning Luncheon with Dr. Mary Donahue

- Dr. Mary Donohue has researched conversation patterns to understand how different generations process information. There are now three, and soon to be four, different generations in the workplace. Each generation brings to the workplace its own perspectives and assumptions, developed through its own unique experiences. As a result, information is not processed homogenously and communication is incomplete, causing increased stress, anxiety and fear amongst employees. Dr. Mary Donohue has designed a program to assist leaders to understand how different generations process and present information – and adapt to meet the needs of different generations in the workplace.
Sales Skills with the Canadian Professional Sales Association

- This seminar will be hosted in partnership with the Canadian Professional Sales Association. Expert instructors from the CPSA will demonstrate proven measures for successful sales. At the end of this session, attendees will be able to apply a proven approach to sales calls and presentations, tailor communication style to individual customers, and nurture profitable and long-lasting relationships with clients.

The Millworks is a facility designed to help area entrepreneurs in their start-up or early-growth stage develop sustainable business models for long-term success.
